About Brent

I’m Brent Hayter, a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) based in Kelowna, BC,

specializing in helping men and couples navigate life’s challenges with clarity and confidence.

Whether you’re facing stress, relationship struggles, emotional burnout—or just feeling stuck—my approach is practical, empowering, and down-to-earth.

I’m a compassionate and experienced counsellor with over 25 years of diverse experience as a teacher, coach, hockey player, power skating instructor, and strength and conditioning specialist. As a father of three adult children, a husband, and a professional with decades of real-world and relational insight, I feel that I bring humility, authenticity, and grounded wisdom to my counselling work.

With a background spanning athletics, education, and business, I connect meaningfully with clients from all walks of life. My rich personal and professional journey—combined with deep empathy and curiosity about the human condition—shapes a therapeutic practice that is both practical and profoundly human.

I work from a humanistic, culturally sensitive, and client-centred lens. I draw on Client-Centered Therapy and Emotion-Focused Therapy for Individuals (EFIT), as developed by Dr. Sue Johnson, to help clients explore and process their emotions safely and supportedly.

Informed by a trauma-sensitive perspective and licensed in Somatic Attachment Focused EMDR, I understand how early experiences, relational injuries, and unprocessed emotions can shape the way we think, feel, and engage with the world. My approach is warm, collaborative, and grounded in the belief that people already possess the inner strengths they need to heal and grow.

“We’re all human. We all face struggles. But we also carry the tools to grow, connect, and thrive. It’s a privilege to walk alongside my clients on their path to healing and self-discovery.”

I offer a safe, nonjudgmental space where clients can express themselves openly and feel truly heard. I see counselling as a relational process rooted in trust, presence, and mutual respect.

Whether you’re navigating anxiety, grief, relationship challenges, identity exploration, or major life transitions, I tailor my approach to support your unique goals, values, and experiences.

Whether you’re seeking clarity, personal growth, or simply a place to be yourself, I offer practical tools, emotional insight, and steady guidance.

I’m deeply committed to helping individuals progress with resilience, purpose, and self-trust.

FAQ

Q: Do you offer online sessions?

Yes, I offer both in-person sessions in Kelowna and secure online counselling/coaching to clients across BC and Western Canada.

Q: How do I know if I need counselling or coaching?

If you’re struggling emotionally or mentally, counselling may be best.
If you’re looking for goal-setting, structure, and accountability, coaching may be a better fit. We’ll figure it out together in your first session.

Q: Do you work with women or families?

While I specialize in my work with men and couples, I do have many female clients and experience with families.

Q: Is this covered by insurance?

Yes, many extended health plans in BC—and across Canada—cover counselling with a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) and a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC). Since I hold both designations (RCC and CCC), most insurance providers in BC and other provinces are likely to cover my sessions.

That said, it’s always best to check directly with your provider to confirm your specific coverage.

Q: Do you do direct billing ?

No, while my services are covered by most insurance companies (Blue Cross, Greeshield,Telus,Sunlife, Manulife, ICBC etc.) clients are required to pay for their appointments up front and submit their receipt through an app to their insurance company for reimbursement. For most insurance companies reimbursement takes a couple days
